How To Freeze Carrot Tops

There are a few different ways you can go about freezing carrot tops. The first is to freeze them as they are, in big bunches. While they can be a little soggy when coming out of the freezer, they are perfect for adding to a soup or smoothie. You may want to think about splitting them down into small portions so you can take what you need and prevent waste further along the line.

The next method would be to finely chop the carrot tops as you would with a herb like parsley or mint. Once finely chopped, add to an ice cube tray (silicone works best for this) and add either some water, butter or oil.

Thirdly, you could choose to cook your carrot tops before cooking. For example, you could sautee them or make them into a soup. The main thing to remember here is that the carrot top dish will need to fully cool before being frozen.

Basic Instructions For Freezing Carrot Tops

  1. Place the carrot tops in a suitable freeze container or plastic freezer bag. Squeeze out as much air as possible to help prevent freezer burn.
  2. If using the ice cube tray method as described above, over the tray with a layer of cling film (saran wrap).
