How To Freeze Barbeque Sauce

Before freezing barbeque sauce, you might want to consider portion sizes. For sauces, my preferred method is freezing the sauce in an ice cube tray, which means I can remove a couple of cubes as and when needed rather than defrosting a large tubful.

  1. If you made the barbeque sauce from scratch, make sure it’s cold before freezing.
  2. Pour the sauce into a freezer proofer container, allowing a little room for the sauce to expand.
  3. If using the ice cube tray method, pour the sauce into the ice cube tray and cover it with cling film. Freeze for an hour or until the barbeque sauce is solid. Remove the sauce cubes and pop them into a freezer bag.
  4. Label and date the barbeque sauce. This means you’ll easily be able to see what it is and when it was frozen.

How Long Does Barbeque Sauce Last In The Freezer?

Barbeque sauce will last for 3-4 months in the freezer. After this time it will still be safe to eat, but the quality may have started to deteriorate.

How To Defrost Barbeque Sauce.

The best way to defrost barbeque is in the fridge. If you’re just defrosting a couple of cubes this should only take a few hours, whereas if defrosting a large tubful it might take quite a bit longer, so it might be best to get it out the day before you need it.

If you plan to heat the barbeque sauce, you could also defrost it in the microwave using the defrost setting or in a small pan on the hob.

Barbeque sauce can be a little bit watery after freezing, so you might want to give it a good stir before serving.

How To Reheat Barbeque Sauce

Barbeque sauce can be reheated on the stove or in the microwave. If you’re using it to coat ribs or chicken, for example, then the barbeque sauce doesn’t need to be reheated first, you can just brush it on or mix it with the meat as you usually would.
