How To Cook Mini Frozen Sausage Rolls In The Air Fryer

Can you cook mini frozen sausage rolls in the air fryer?

The answer is yes! In fact, they’re one of my favourite frozen snacks to cook in the air fryer. This post will show you exactly how to cook them, including the cooking time, temperature and a few handy tips to help you get perfectly crisp pastry every time.

The air fryer is one of my favourite kitchen gadgets and it’s now got to the point where I use mine several times a week.

I’m always discovering different things I can cook in it, especially from frozen. So far I’ve tried everything from onion rings to frozen sausages, and mini sausage rolls were next on my list.

Can You Cook Mini Frozen Sausage Rolls In The Air Fryer?

The good news is that yes, you can absolutely cook mini frozen sausage rolls in the air fryer.

They puff up beautifully and I found the pastry cooked really evenly. Unlike oven cooking, I didn’t end up with any uncooked pastry in the middle.

They also take less time to cook than they do in the oven, so you’re saving both time and electricity.

The only real downside is that you can only cook a small batch at once. If you’re catering for a big party, I’d still recommend using the oven.

That said, if you’re making a few for lunch, a picnic or your oven is already full, the air fryer is a brilliant option.

Before You Get Started

A couple of things are worth mentioning before we get started.

Appliances vary. I used a Tower Air Fryer for this post, but every model cooks a little differently, so you may need to adjust the cooking time slightly.

Brands vary. I used Greggs mini sausage rolls from Iceland, which are a little larger than some cocktail sausage rolls. If you’re using another brand, you may find they cook a little quicker or slower.

How To Cook Mini Frozen Sausage Rolls In The Air Fryer

Cooking mini frozen sausage rolls in the air fryer is quick and easy.

I chose to line my air fryer basket with a circle of greaseproof paper because I find some foods can stick to the bottom. I know some people prefer not to do this as it can reduce the airflow slightly, but I haven’t found it makes much difference.

You could also use a silicone slow cooker liner.

Here’s how to cook them:

  1. Place the frozen mini sausage rolls into the air fryer basket, leaving a little space between each one so they have room to puff up. I managed to fit seven into my air fryer, but you may fit more or fewer depending on their size.
  2. Cook at 200°C for 8–10 minutes.
  3. Once the tops are nicely golden, turn the sausage rolls over and cook for another 5–8 minutes. I always do this because it gives a more even bake and helps prevent soggy or undercooked pastry.
  4. Before serving, make sure they’re piping hot all the way through. If you’re using a food thermometer, the centre should reach 75°C for at least 30 seconds or 80°C for at least 6 seconds. If not, simply cook them for another couple of minutes.
  5. Serve while they’re still warm or leave them to cool before refrigerating if you’re making them ahead.

How Long Do Mini Frozen Sausage Rolls Take In The Air Fryer?

Answer: Around 15–18 minutes at 200°C.

Mine usually take between 15 and 18 minutes, depending on how evenly they’re browning.

I like to check them after the first 8–10 minutes before turning them over to finish cooking.

As every air fryer is slightly different, don’t worry if yours need another minute or two. The important thing is that they’re piping hot in the middle before serving.

Top Tips

  • Leave a little space between the sausage rolls so they can puff up properly.
  • Turn them over halfway through cooking for a more even finish.
  • Use a food thermometer if you’re unsure whether they’re cooked through.
  • Don’t overcrowd the basket or the pastry won’t crisp up as well.

I really love how these sausage rolls turn out in the air fryer. They come out beautifully golden and crisp and, if I’m honest, I think they almost look homemade.

Have you tried cooking mini frozen sausage rolls in the air fryer? I’d love to hear how they turned out.

Next on my list was trying full-sized frozen sausage rolls... and they worked just as well!
