How to Cook Frozen Sausage Rolls in the Air Fryer (16–18 Minutes)

Have you ever wondered if you can cook frozen sausage rolls in the air fryer?

The answer is yes! Air frying is a really quick way to cook frozen sausage rolls, and the results are surprisingly good too.

The air fryer has to be one of my favourite kitchen gadgets. There are just so many things you can cook in it!

I especially like using it for cooking food from frozen because it’s usually much quicker than using the oven and often gives even better results.

In particular, we love air fryer chips and air fryer potato wedges.

Lately I’ve also been trying foods you might not ordinarily think to cook in the air fryer, such as frozen mini sausage rolls. That inspired me to try full-sized frozen sausage rolls too, just to see how they turned out.

Can You Cook Frozen Sausage Rolls In The Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook frozen sausage rolls in the air fryer.

I’ve tried this a few times now and the results have been consistently good. I do find the pastry can colour a little unevenly, but I suspect that’s more to do with my particular air fryer than the sausage rolls themselves – it does run quite hot compared to others I’ve used.

One of the biggest advantages is the cooking time. Frozen sausage rolls cook in around 10 minutes less than they do in the oven, so you’re saving both time and electricity.

The only downside is capacity. I can only comfortably cook two full-sized sausage rolls at a time, so if you’re feeding a crowd, the oven may still be the better option. Although if you have a dual basket air fryer, or one with a large capacity, you may comfortably be able to fit more in.

Before You Get Started

A couple of things are worth mentioning before we get started.

Appliances vary. Every air fryer cooks a little differently, so you may need to tweak the cooking time slightly. For reference, I used this Tower Air Fryer.

Brands vary. I used Greggs frozen sausage rolls from Iceland. If you’re using another brand, the size and pastry may vary slightly, so your cooking time may need adjusting.

How To Cook Frozen Sausage Rolls In The Air Fryer

Here’s how to cook frozen sausage rolls in the air fryer:

  1. Place the frozen sausage rolls into the air fryer basket, leaving a little space between each one. Avoid overfilling the basket.
  2. Cook at 200°C for 8–10 minutes.
  3. Turn the sausage rolls over and cook for a further 8 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.

I always turn mine halfway through because I find it helps the pastry cook more evenly and stops the bottoms from going soggy.

Once cooked, make sure the sausage rolls are piping hot in the middle before serving. If you’re using a food thermometer, they should reach 75°C for at least 30 seconds or 80°C for at least 6 seconds.

If they’re not quite hot enough, simply pop them back into the air fryer for another couple of minutes.

They’re delicious served straight away, but you can also leave them to cool before refrigerating if you’re making them for later.

Do You Need Baking Paper?

I like to line my air fryer basket with a circle of greaseproof paper because the non-stick coating isn’t brilliant anymore.

I know some people prefer not to do this because it can reduce the airflow slightly, but personally I haven’t found it makes much difference when cooking sausage rolls. You could also use a silicone air fryer liner.

How Long Do Frozen Sausage Rolls Take To Cook In The Air Fryer?

Answer: 16–18 minutes at 200°C.

I usually cook mine for around 8–10 minutes on one side before turning them over for another 8 minutes.

There’s nothing worse than biting into a sausage roll and getting a mouthful of uncooked pastry!

As every air fryer is slightly different, don’t worry if yours need another minute or two. The important thing is that they’re piping hot all the way through before serving.

Top Tips

  • Don’t overcrowd the basket or the pastry won’t crisp up as evenly.
  • Turn the sausage rolls halfway through cooking for a more even finish.
  • If your sausage rolls are particularly large, allow an extra minute or two.
  • Always check the centre is piping hot before serving.

Frozen sausage rolls are one of those foods that work really well in the air fryer. They’re quicker than cooking them in the oven, the pastry comes out lovely and crisp, and they’re perfect when you’re only cooking a couple at a time.

Did you know you can also cook frozen hash browns and frozen roast potatoes in the air fryer? Why not give those a try too?
